Second problem: the screw I can get to is locked. I generally don't like removing the lid hinge but it seems not to even be an option with this one (internal). Do I need a special tool to remove this screw? Tried to find an offset precision screwdriver on amazon but there is nothing that small. This is one more than the typical L1 BR and the screw behind the button is hard to reach with a screwdriver. When I got the cover off I found two screws, one on each side of the button. It must have been in storage for a long time as the flint had turned to dust, expanded and hardened making it difficult to remove the flint cover. I picked up this nice table lighter and immediately attempted to disassemble. Hi found this lighter do you experts of all lighters think it is fake or real, I know one cap is missing but I have a guy that fixes st dupont. The characters look pretty straight, but I think you can see that the N and the 4 are out of alignment? Suggests it's been hand stamped? Also I am not sure, but I think the "S.T. The serial number is quite hard to see but I think it reads something like BHN475. But some image results do look like this. What are chances I could polish up the gold and the lacquer without ruining it?ĭo these characters look original? I have seen several different characters and also a sort've leaf symbol. Some tarnishing is to be expected, although this looks quite rough around the hinges. I've also checked the identification guide and don't see any immediate red flags like false serial numbers. The listing has some slightly stylised photos like the one above (I think to hide some tarnishing), but I've also requested some extra photos to see things more clearly. I am also not 100% sure as to what model this is, as I know they did the black lacquer finish on several. I was wondering if anyone could provide their thoughts on whether it's a legitimate model, the approximate age, and whether this is in reasonable condition. I've searched around and found the lighter below for ~£100. Dupont, in particularly the black lacquered models. So, I've recently started collecting lighters and so of course I've become besotted with S.T. Before I begin - I made sure to read all the identification guides before posting this.
